Two Shares

Today I’m sharing two recommended resources for you to peruse at your leisure.

1- My girl Laura’s story about hand me down hygienics

Laura Novich, my podcast and coalition co-host and friend, wrote a piece fact-checking the germ-factor of used clothes. Here’s why she wrote it:

I've always been fascinated by the stigma of secondhand -- where it stemmed from, how it plays out within different communities, and its portrayal in mass media.

One of the leading drivers of that stigma is the unknown. When you're purchasing a used item not directly from the current owner, there are a lot of unknowns: who owned the garment before? Did they keep the garment clean? Where has this garment been before? What could be lurking within the threads?

And of course our imaginations start to run wild and we begin to fear the unknown.

But what is the unknown? What if the unknown isn't actually bad? What if the unknown isn't going to harm us?

If that piques your interest, read it here!

2- We Are The Great Turning Podcast

This is an incredible podcast about climate activism amidst the growing climate crisis. Co-hosted by 30-something Jess Serrante and 90-something Joanna Macy, longtime environmental activist. This podcast is slow, thoughtful and moving, and it helps me reconcile some of my own anxieties about our world.

Until next time,

Cynthia
